Ukraine calls on int'l partners to take lead in rebuilding Ukrainian regions - PM Shmyhal

KYIV. May 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine calls on all international partners to take the lead in rebuilding Ukrainian regions, communities and cities, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said in a speech to the development ministers of the G7 member countries.

"Ukraine should become "an economically successful member of the European Union," Shmyhal said in his speech, according to the government's press service.

In the presence of partners' support, not only will Ukraine be able to restore what has been destroyed, but to build a new economy, he said.

"The European Commission estimates the recovery plan at EUR 500-600 billion. Our government has already embarked on developing a large-scale plan for the restoration and modernization of our state," Shmyhal said.

Ukraine seeks to use the approaches that will be the basis of the plan, including the regionality principle, where partner countries and corporations help rebuild a specific city or region, he said.

The G7 states' development ministries, in turn, said that the Group of Seven, as a club of the world's economically strongest countries, stands ready to take the lead in rebuilding Ukraine, the press service said.
