Ukrainian electricity exports could replace 17% of Russian gas consumed in EU countries - deputy minister

KYIV. May 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Electricity exports from Ukraine could replace 17% of Russian natural gas consumed by European Union countries, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry said on its website, citing Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk at the Gazterm 2022 conference in Poland on Monday.

"According to our estimates, electricity from Ukraine can replace about 17% of Russian gas exported to the EU," Kolisnyk said.

Ukraine also stands ready to make a significant contribution to the reliability of natural gas supplies to European countries, including by offering European companies half of the capacity of Ukraine's 31 bcm gas storage facilities to create seasonal or strategic gas reserves, he said.

As of 8:00 p.m. on May 16, Ukraine exported 210 MWh of electricity to Poland and 135 MWh to Moldova.
