Ukraine and U.S. discuss ways to resolve fuel crisis

KYIV. May 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov, U.S. Charge d'Affaires, a.i. Kristina Kvien and officials of the U.S. embassy to Ukraine have discussed ways to resolve the fuel crisis, Ukraine's Infrastructure Ministry said on social media.

The Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry has already reached an agreement with Poland that no permits will be required for trucks carrying fuel, and the ministry stands ready to work further in cooperation with the U.S. on raising the efficiency of vehicle and rail crossings on Ukraine's western border, Kubrakov said.

"Our main objective is to support and develop joint logistics projects and to raise funds to finance the restoration of Ukrainian cities and infrastructure facilities," he said.

Besides, the parties discussed the development of new routes for exporting grain to foreign markets, where the absence of Ukrainian agricultural products has already started to cause a food crisis.

As reported, the State Transport Security Service of Ukraine has lifted quantitative limits on permits for Poland's transportation by road under the 2022 quota.

Previously, Poland allowed specialized companies to transport fuel without permits if they filled out the special registration form (in Latin-script letters) in advance.

Poland has also agreed to allow the state-run Export Credit Insurance Corporation to insure foreign trucks importing fuel to Ukraine. The corporation will offer additional instruments to reinsure risks with the aim of aiding Ukrainian importers of petroleum products.
