Economic Development Ministry's Sergei Galkin appointed Rosstat head
MOSCOW. May 11 (Interfax) - Sergei Galkin, previously deputy minister at Russia's Economic Development Ministry, has been appointed the head of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), according to the government's official Telegram channel, with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin having signed the corresponding instruction.
Rosstat has been under the jurisdiction of the Economic Development Ministry since 2017.
As previously reported, according to the decree of the Russian president, Pavel Malkov, Galkin's predecessor at Rosstat, on May 10 was appointed acting governor of the Ryazan Region to replace Nikolai Lyubimov, who had resigned the governorship.
Galkin was invited in 2017 to the post of adviser to then Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin, who is currently an aide to Russia's president. Galkin was soon appointed to oversee the Organizational Support and Communications Department, following which he had been the deputy minister responsible for regional policy and development issues at the Economic Development Ministry since November 2018.
