Russia allows parallel imports of GE gas turbines

MOSCOW. May 11 (Interfax) - Russia's Industry and Trade Ministry has included General Electric gas turbines in the list of goods cleared for parallel imports, a ministry order posted on the official website for legal information on Friday showed.

The order included a detailed list of specific products and product groups for which parallel imports are allowed, making it possible to import without the permission of the rights holder goods that are sold in other countries. The list is compiled in line with Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) foreign trade commodity codes (TN VED EAEU), however, it also specifies certain foreign products, products and materials for which parallel imports into Russia are authorized.

The document states that imports of goods under code 8411, which refers to turbojet and turboprop engines and gas turbines, are allowed.

Parallel imports will be allowed as of the ministry order's date of registration, May 6, 2022, the ministry said on its Telegram channel.

It was reported earlier that General Electric announced the suspension of operations in Russia, but promised to maintain existing power services. GE power equipment is installed at Unipro's Shaturskaya GRES power plant and at the Taishet Aluminum Smelter, among other facilities.

Russian power company Inter RAO planned to set up production of large-capacity gas turbines in Russia under a license from GE as part of a joint venture with the U.S. company called Russian Gas Turbines.
