Leader of Transdniestria hoping for its peaceful recognition

TIRASPOL. May 6 (Interfax) - Vadim Krasnoselsky, the leader of the unrecognized Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic, has said he hopes that Transdniestria will receive international recognition as a result of talks.

"Transdniestria should and will be recognized, but that will happen peacefully, at the negotiating table and through dialogue. The process should be nothing but democratic and evolutionary, without any hostilities or casualties. No one needs a war," Krasnoselsky said on Telegram.

"After the terror attacks in Transdniestria, the world suddenly recalled the existence of the Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic and everyone has suddenly taken an interest in it," he said.

"The fire should not be fanned with provocations, either terrorist, telephone or informational ones. Assumptions, conjectures or conclusions uttered as mere rhetoric and aimed at boosting the rating of media outlets or particular persons could serve a spark which starts a fire. People in Transdniestria know well what a war is and value peace. I am ordering you not to search for or especially not to create eye-catching, noisy and, importantly, dangerous news hooks. No one is talking about keeping silent - absolutely not. But you should not seed panic in our public and escalate tensions," Krasnoselsky said.

A red-level terrorist alert was declared in Transdniestria on April 26 following explosions in the building of the Transdniestrian State Security Ministry and a TV and radio center where radio transmission antennas were damaged. The incidents did not lead to casualties. Yet Transdniestria tightened security and placed roadblocks on the entrances to the region and every city. All educational establishments shifted to the online format for the rest of this school year, and exams, including graduation exams in high schools and admission exams in higher educational establishments, were cancelled. It was also decided not to hold the Victory Day parade and to ban fireworks.

Chisinau said that opposing forces inside Transdniestria were trying to escalate the situation. Tiraspol responded it was a mere assumption and noted that the terror attacks were tracked back to Ukraine.
