Ukraine invites Pope Francis to visit Kyiv - Foreign Ministry

KYIV. May 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine renews the invitation to Pope Francis to visit Kyiv, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Mykolenko said.

"Ukraine reaffirms its commitment to dialogue and renews the invitation to the Holy Father to visit Kyiv. [...] We are asking the Holy Father to continue to pray for Ukrainians and to take efforts towards peace in Ukraine," Mykolenko told reporters on Tuesday.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has closely studied the interview of Pope Francis with the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera and appreciates the fact that Ukraine remains one of his focal points, he said.

"We appreciate the efforts taken by the Pope of Rome to establish fair peace," Mykolenko said.
