Georgia can't impose sanctions on Russia that would hurt Russia more than Georgia - parliament speaker

TBILISI. April 29 (Interfax) - Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili believes that Georgia is unable to impose such anti-Russian sanctions that would hurt Russia more than Georgia.

"Georgia cannot introduce such sanctions against Russia that would cause greater damage to Russia than to Georgia. Consequently, it makes no sense and has no effect, but will only spark an escalation, and this escalation will lead us to an armed conflict in the end," Papuashvili said in an interview with Georgia's TV One on Thursday evening, when once again commenting on Kyiv's repeated statements criticizing Tbilisi's refusal to join the sanctions against Russia.

At the same time, Georgia will not be the place where Russia can bypass international sanctions, he said.

The Georgian government has always avoided criticizing the Ukrainian government, but there are issues to which the Georgian authorities have to react, he said.

Specifically, Papuashvili considers some Ukrainian representatives' remarks calling on Georgia to open the "second front" as unacceptable.

Georgia will not provide military assistance to Ukraine and no second front will be opened in Georgia, he said.

"If there are complaints regarding these two issues, we will not accept these complaints," Papuashvili said.
