Zaporizhzhya NPP now generating power only for its needs after power line was damaged

KYIV. April 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is currently generating power only for its own needs after a 330kW high-voltage power line was damaged, the Energoatom National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine said on Thursday morning.

"Due to the damage sustained by a 330kW high-voltage power line in the southern region of Ukraine, and in order to maintain the stable operation of the power grid, the Zaporizhzhya NPP was transferred to the level of capacity at which it can generate power to cover only its own needs," Energoatom said.

The Zaporizhzhya NPP, Europe's largest nuclear power plant by installed capacity, has six B-320 Project VVER-1000 power generating units. Its first unit was put into operation in December 1984, and the sixth unit in October 1995.
