Energoatom renames South Ukraine NPP as Pivdennoukrainsk NPP

KYIV. April 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Energoatom, the Ukrainian state nuclear power plant operator, has changed the name of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant (formerly called Yuzhnoukrainska NPP in Ukrainian) into Pivdennoukrainska NPP, and the relevant decree has been signed, the company said.

"The South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant is now called Pivdennoukrainska! Energoatom chief Petro Kotin has signed a decree on renaming it 'with the purpose of bringing the name of the South Ukraine NPP into line with the official language standards and Ukrainian spelling rules'," Energoatom said in a statement on its Telegram channel on Wednesday.

The plant's abbreviation is now PNPP.

"The name of the plant's satellite town Yuzhnoukrainsk has not been changed so far, but this is just a matter of time and longer procedures," it said.

The Pivdennoukrainska NPP is located in a steppe area on the left bank of the Pivdenny Buh River, near the town of Yuzhnoukrainsk in the Mykolayiv region. It was built in 1975-1982. It operates three 1 mln MW VVER-1000 reactors.

As reported earlier, the decision to rename the plant at the initiative of its staff was made at a meeting of its union committee on Tuesday.
