All quiet near military depots in Transdniestria - Joint Control Commission

TIRASPOL/MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - All is quiet near military depots in Transdniestria, while a number of rifle shots have been fired in the territory of Ukraine, the Joint Control Commission (JCC) told Interfax on Wednesday.

"All is quiet in Colbasna [near the military depots]. A number of rifle shots have been fired in the territory of Ukraine," the JCC said.

The JCC is the body governing the peacekeeping operation in Transdniestria.

Tiraspol media outlets said earlier there was shooting near Russian arms depots in Colbasna.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry of the unrecognized Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic has confirmed local media reports that shots were fired in the direction of the Russian weapons and ammunition depot in Transdniestria on Wednesday morning.

"Information available as of 10:00 a.m. indicates that several drones were detected in the sky over Colbasna village in the Ribnita district last night. The drones were launched into "Shots were fired from Ukrainian territory in the direction of the Transdniestrian locality of Colbasna at 8:45 a.m. on April 27," it said.

There are currently no reports on casualties, it said.

Earlier on Wednesday Tiraspol media outlets said that a shooting incident has occurred near Russian arms and ammo depots in the unrecognized Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic.

"There have been reports of shooting near ammo depots on the outskirts of the Cobasna village. There are no casualties. We are working to find out details," the Novosti Pridnestrovia official news agency based in Tiraspol said on Telegram.

The depots in the village of Colbasna on the left bank of the Dniester have been storing weapons and ammunition of the former 14th Russian Army since Soviet times. Some munitions date back to the 1950s. The depots are guarded by the Operational Group of Russian Forces in Transdniestria. Around 20,000 tonnes of ammunition were removed from the depots and disposed of in the early 2000s, while nearly the same amount is still kept at the depots.
