Uniper continuing talks with Gazprom on paying for gas in rubles, first payment due in late May

MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - Germany energy group Uniper is continuing negotiations with Russian gas giant Gazprom on the issue of paying for gas in rubles, the company's CFO, Tiina Tuomela said in a conference call with investors.

Uniper still believes such payment is possible. However, it is important for Uniper to act within the bounds of European sanctions and the company is in contact with the German authorities on this issue, Tuomela said.

The situation will become clearer by the end of May, when the company is supposed to make the first payment in line with the new law, she said.
