Passenger traffic across Ukraine's western border almost halves - State Border Service

KYIV. April 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Passenger traffic across Ukraine's western border almost halved during the Orthodox Easter holidays as compared to the recent average levels, dropping to 33,000 people, the Ukrainian State Border Service said on Monday.

Around 16,000 people left Ukraine on Sunday, April 24, down from 26,000 the day before, and more than 17,000 people, including over 15,000 Ukrainians, entered the country on Sunday, as compared to 33,000, among them 30,000 Ukrainians, on Saturday, the State Border Service said on social media.

The number of vehicles with humanitarian cargoes cleared for entry to Ukraine on Sunday declined to 120, as compared to 450 the day before, it said.

Data released by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees as of 1:00 p.m. on April 24 show that 5.23 million people have left Ukraine since February 24. Of them, Poland has taken 2.91 million, Romania and Moldova 843,740, Russia 605,820, Hungary 492,980, Slovakia 355,590, and Belarus 24,480.

A total of 1.17 million people have entered Ukraine since February 28, the State Border Service said.
