Ukraine provides IAEA with list of equipment to ensure safe operation of NPPs

KYIV. April 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine has provided the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with a comprehensive list of equipment to ensure the safe and secure operations of its nuclear facilities, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said.

"The list Ukraine sent [on April 22] covers a range of equipment for different nuclear facilities in the country, and includes various radiation measurement devices, protective material, computer-related assistance, power supply systems and diesel generators," the IAEA quoted Grossi as saying in its daily bulletin on Ukraine last Saturday.

Ukraine submitted detailed equipment requirements through the IAEA's secure website "for the exchange of notifications and other emergency-related information between countries," it said.

This would enable the IAEA to effectively coordinate and implement the delivery of support to Ukraine. "Many IAEA Member States have expressed readiness to offer such assistance to the country," it said.

Ukraine's request for assistance addressed to the IAEA and 31 of its member states will be coordinated through the overall mechanism of the Agency's Response and Assistance Network (RANET), it said.

"The IAEA has the technical expertise that is needed to support Ukraine in keeping its nuclear sites safe and secure. We will coordinate the implementation of the assistance that the IAEA and its Member States will provide, including by delivering required equipment directly to Ukraine's nuclear sites. The needs are great and I'm very grateful for the considerable support that our Member States have already indicated they will make available for Ukraine," Grossi said.

As reported earlier, Grossi and IAEA experts are to visit the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant on April 26, the 36th anniversary of the accident at the plant. While visiting the South Ukraine NPP in March, Grossi presented the first shipment of equipment to facilitate the safe operation of Ukrainian NPPs.
