Russia imposing sanctions against 61 Canadian citizens - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. April 21 (Interfax) - Russia is imposing sanctions against 61 Canadian citizens, including top state officials, active and retired servicemen, representatives of the expert community and the media, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

"In response to the ongoing anti-Russian sanctions imposed by official Ottawa, including a ban on entry into Canada and other discriminatory measures against Russian officials, servicemen, experts and journalists, another group of Canadian citizens is included in the stop list on a permanent basis," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website.

"The said persons (61 people), including top state officials, active and retired servicemen, representatives of the expert community and leading media, directly involved in the development, substantiation and implementation of the Russophobic policies of Canada's ruling regime, are banned from entering the Russian Federation indefinitely," the report said.

"A new announcement is planned in the near future of a new expansion of the Russian stop list in retaliation to the hostile actions by the government of Canada, which supports the pro-Banderite regime in Kyiv," the report said.

"Russia will continue a principled stance that envisages resolute rebuff of the Russophobic actions by official Ottawa, including the supply of weapons and connivance with the sending of mercenaries to Ukraine. In this regard, we are warning the Canadian curators of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the nationalist battalions about liability for the war crimes committed by those under their care. Those guilty will definitely be held accountable," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
