Deputy Prime Minister Abramchenko announces plans to produce 1.8 million tonnes of alternative fuel in Russia by 2025

MOSCOW. April 21 (Interfax) - Russia plans to reach annual production of 1.8 million tonnes of alternative (non-fossil) fuel by 2025 through implementation of the "Closed Loop Economy" project, Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko said.

"According to our targets, owing to the project, the share of recycled resources in 2024 will reach 25% in agriculture, 20% in construction, and 15% in industry. Production and consumption of alternative fuel by 2025 is expected at 1.8 million tonnes per year," Abramchenko was quoted by her press service as saying during a meeting on implementation of the federal project.

At the moment, the Russian environmental operator (REO) together with the relevant ministries in the framework of the project is preparing four industry programs for the use of recyclable materials, which should be approved by the summer. These are programs involving recycling of waste in the sphere of construction and housing and utilities (Construction Ministry), industrial production (Industry and Trade Ministry) and agriculture (Agriculture Ministry) as well as programs for use of alternative fuel and waste in industry (Industry and Trade Ministry). The programs being overseen by the Construction Ministry and the Industry and Trade Ministry are ready, Abramchenko said.

"The REO, together with the regions, is to develop design specifications and estimates for the creation of infrastructure for eco-industrial parks as early as the beginning of 2023. The project calls for construction of eight facilities in the Primorye Territory, Novgorod Region, Krasnodar Territory, Novosibirsk Region, Chelyabinsk Region, Leningrad Region, Moscow Region and Stavropol Territory," the press service said.

About 10 billion rubles will be allocated for the project through 2025.

Abramchenko said at a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on January 27 that eight eco-industrial parks are to be built by the end of 2024.
