Belarus allows transit for EU trucks carrying drugs, medical goods

MINSK. April 21 (Interfax) - Belarus has broadened the list of cargo exceptions from the ban on EU trucks entering its territory and transiting through it since April 16, the Belarusian Transport Ministry said.

From now on, the ban does not apply to oversized and humanitarian goods, as well as to cargo requiring special transportation conditions: drugs (both packed and unpacked), medical goods and their component parts, raw materials and substances for the production of drugs and medical products, and human blood, organs and tissue.

Belarus banned the crossing of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) border into Belarus for trucks (including tow trucks) registered in the EU on April 16 in the wake of the EU ban on trucks registered in Russia and Belarus that was declared on April 8. There are no restrictions on the entry into Belarus for trucks carrying mail and live animals.

However, EU trucks can cross into Belarus only through checkpoints in 14 areas designated for cargo operations and transfer from April 16.

Belarus allowed trucks registered in the EU to leave its territory before April 24.

Cars and buses registered in the EU can travel through Belarus without limitation.
