Ukraine receives $88.6 mln from World Bank for scholarships

KYIV. April 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine has received a tranche of $88.6 million from the World Bank in order to reimburse the expenses of the Ukrainian government on payments of academic and social scholarships, the Finance Ministry said on Tuesday.

"These funds have already been received by the general fund of the state budget," the ministry said.

The funds were provided by the bank as part of the Improving Higher Education for Results Project implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science, it said.

In March, the World Bank approved the restructuring of this project by adding the fifth component "Support for academic scholarships granted by the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as social scholarships granted by the Ministry of Social Policy for students enrolled in higher education" to it, the ministry said.
