Over 20,000 teachers have left Ukraine - education and science minister

KYIV. April 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Nearly 22,000 Ukrainian teachers have left the country, Ukraine's Minister of Education and Science Serhiy Shkarlet said.

"To date, almost 22,000 Ukrainian teachers have moved abroad," Shkarlet said during the national telethon on Thursday morning.

More than ten million Ukrainians currently have the status of temporarily displaced persons, and around 3.5 million of them are now abroad, the minister said.

"Approximately 25% of them are school-age children or [university] students. Thus, we have 2.5 million students and school pupils who had to leave the country," he said.

European Union countries, particularly Greece, France, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Baltic countries, and Slovenia, are helping Ukrainian teachers, university students and school pupils one way or the other, Shkarlet said.
