Ukraine disconnects reactor at Rivne NPP from grid, leaving 7 of 15 of its NPP units operational - IAEA

KYIV. April 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine has disconnected one of the four power units at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant from the grid, leaving seven of the 15 of its nuclear reactors operational, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said with reference to the Ukrainian State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate.

"Regarding Ukraine's 15 operational reactors at four nuclear power plants, seven are currently connected to the grid compared with eight yesterday [...] The eight other reactors are shut down for regular maintenance or held in reserve," the IAEA said in a daily report on Ukraine on its website on Monday evening.

In particular, two of the six power units at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, two of the four at the Rivne NPP, two of the three at the South Ukraine NPP, and one of the two at the Khmelnytsky NPP remain operational, it said.

The IAEA said on April 2 that power unit 2 at the Rivne NPP was shut down for maintenance.

The Rivne NPP is located in Varash in the northwestern part of the Rivne region. The NPP operates four power units with a total capacity of 2,835 MW, including 420 MW Unit 1 (VVER-440) in service since 1980, 415 MW Unit 2 (VVER-440) since 1981, 1,000 MW Unit 3 (VVER-1000) since 1986, and 1,000 MW Unit 4 (VVER-1000) since 2004.

Ukraine has a total of 15 nuclear power units operating pressurized water reactors with a total installed capacity of 13.835 GW.
