Stand Up for Ukraine raises $4.6 bln in grants, $5.5 bln in loans in support of Ukrainian refugees, internally displaced persons

KYIV. April 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Grants worth $4.6 billion (4.1 billion euros) and loans in the amount of $5.5 billion (5 billion euros) raised during the Stand Up for Ukraine campaign will be spent on supporting 4.4 million Ukrainian refugees in European countries and 6.5 million internally displaced people, Global Citizen, one of the campaign organizers, said in a statement.

In particular, the European Commission has pledged commitments amounting to $1.1 billion, Canada $80 million, Belgium $904 million, Croatia $11 million, the Czech Republic $222 million, Estonia $0.11 million, Finland $778 million, IRelend $58 million, Italy $400 million, Malta $0.06 million, Slovakia $595 million, Sweden $333 million, and Qatar $5 million.

The Council of Europe Development Bank has announced the allocation of $1.1 billion, and the European Investment Bank has outlined its plan to make available $4.4 billion in loans (requires approval by its board of directors).

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has confirmed the allocation of $1.1 billion of its $2.25 billion package it announced on March 9 specifically for projects in municipalities hit by the crisis, it said.

The European Commission has said earlier that 1.8 billion of the 9.1 billion euros would be earmarked for internally displaced people in Ukraine and 7.3 billion euros for accommodating refugees in EU and neighboring countries.

The Stand Up for Ukraine campaign was organized in partnership with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with the participation of Polish President Andrzej Duda, Global Citizen said.

The companies that have undertaken new corporate obligations under the campaign include Blue Bottle Coffee, Bridgewater Associates, Cisco, Coca-Cola Company, Continental Development Corporation, Crush Music, CSL Behring, DocuSign, Farmamundi Foundation, Google, Nestle, Nespresso, Twitter, Verizon, The Foundation at Sanofi, Seadream Family Foundation, and Sun Life.
