Next EU summit to decide on stages of Ukraine's accession to EU
KYIV. April 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The European Union summit will decide on the next stages on Ukraine's path to the EU on June 25-26, Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva said.
"The guidelines are the next regular EU summit, that is, the meeting of the European Council, where decisions on the next stages will be taken. This will take place on June 25-26. We have to go to this summit with the relevant decision of the European Council, and then, the launch of accession talks, and there we will also try to make them faster," Zhovkva said in an interview with European Pravda published on Sunday.
He noted that Ukraine's accession to the EU is possible in the next few years.
"I don't want to say a specific month, day or year. But it will definitely be within the next few years," Zhovkva added.
At the same time, he noted that Ukraine has not received any signals from Hungary about holding back Ukraine's accession to the EU.
"I would not say that Hungary is now going to block something on the European track for Ukraine. At least, we do not see such signs, and we hope that there will be no such thing. As for NATO, it was a completely different story. But as far as the EU is concerned, let's hope that this movement of Ukraine will not be held back," Zhovkva said.
