Number of people leaving Ukraine for EU, Moldova increases

KYIV. April 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) - A total of 36,000 people crossed the state border from Ukraine into the European Union and Moldova on April 6, against 32,000 on April 5 and 29,000 on April 4, when the minimal indicator since February 24 was recorded.

Some 64% of the people who left the country went to Poland, which is within the average figures, the State Border Guard Service said on social networks on Thursday.

According to the Polish Border Guard, 24,300 people entered the country from Ukraine on April 6, which is a 16% increase from April 5, and the flow also grew by six percent to 5,000 people in the first seven hours of Thursday. The number of people who entered Poland from Ukraine had increased by 13% the day before, the Polish agency said.

A total of 2.548 million people have crossed the Ukrainian-Polish border into Poland since February 24, the agency said. A total of 502,000 people have crossed the border from Poland into Ukraine.

The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service also said the number of cleared road vehicles carrying humanitarian cargoes had decreased to some 500 over the past 24 hours, from 520-530 two days before.

According to data from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as of 1:00 p.m. on April 6, 4.32 million people have left Ukraine since February, including 2.51 million people for Poland, 729,610 for Romania and Moldova, 404,0 for Hungary, 350,630 for Russia, 302,420 for Slovakia, and 18,060 for Belarus.
