New U.S. sanctions won't have significant impact on Sberbank, its system has already adapted

MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - New U.S. sanctions will not have a significant impact on Sberbank as its system has already adapted to restrictions imposed previously.

"Sberbank continues to work as normal. The imposed sanctions will not significantly affect the bank's work and will have no impact on providing services to Russian citizens since the system has already adapted to the previously imposed restrictions," the bank said in a press release.

"Sber's experience, resources and expertise allow us to operate successfully under any conditions," it said.

The United States on Wednesday imposed full blocking sanctions on Sberbank, which is Russia's largest financial institution. The action will freeze any of Sberbank's assets touching the U.S. financial system and prohibit U.S. persons from doing business with the bank.

The U.S. imposed correspondent and payable-through account sanctions against Sberbank in February.
