Ukraine, IAEA maintaining regular dialogue - energy minister

KYIV. March 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have arranged a regular dialogue, which has produced practical results, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said following a meeting with IAEA Director General Mariano Grossi at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant.

"We've come to understand that the IAEA sees everything that's happening and will continue communication. And it's very important that technical assistance that Energoatom and the IAEA should consider in the future will be in place. We've normalized a regular dialogue, which will have a practical dimension," Halushchenko said at a press briefing at the South Ukraine NPP on Wednesday.

Ukraine is committed to honor its nuclear safety and security obligations, he said.

Energoatom CEO Petro Kotin said Ukraine has already received a first tranche of material support from the IAEA. "Sets of good individual radiation dosimeters and high-quality dosimetry equipment have just arrived," he said.

As reported earlier, IAEA Director General Grossi came to Ukraine for a visit on March 29 to see what support the agency could provide to the country to ensure nuclear safety and security.
