Moscow blocks Polish embassy's accounts

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax) - Russia has retaliated by freezing the accounts of the Polish Embassy, Russian Ambassador in Warsaw Sergei Andreyev said on Tuesday.

"Only today there was a report that the accounts of the Polish embassy in Moscow have been blocked," he told the Rossiya-24 television channel.

Last week, Poland announced the expulsion of 45 Russian diplomats. Andreyev said then that Warsaw would not let Russia send in replacements. The Polish authorities also froze the Russian embassy's accounts. Moscow vowed to retaliate.

Under such conditions, the embassy "can work for some time, using what reserves we have remaining, but this cannot go on forever," Andreyev said.

"Poland started this and it is up to Poland to decide whether it is interested in the shutdown of the Russian embassy to Poland and, inevitably, of the Polish one in Moscow," he said.
