Erdogan, Putin discuss Ukraine, agree to hold Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul - media

ISTANBUL. March 27 (Interfax) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks on developments in Ukraine on Sunday, the Sabah publication reported.

The two leaders agreed that Istanbul will be the venue for the next talks between Russia and Ukraine.

Erdogan also highlighted the need for reaching a ceasefire in Ukraine as soon as possible, as well as Turkey's willingness to provide humanitarian assistance.

Turkey hopes talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations expected in Istanbul will result in a ceasefire and contribute to peace in Ukraine, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday.

"We hope these meetings will lead to a lasting ceasefire and create an opportunity for peace," Cavusoglu said on Twitter.

"We realize responsibility due to the trust placed in Turkey by both sides," he added.
