Cash hryvni may be exchanged in Poland, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Moldova - National Bank of Ukraine

KYIV. March 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The currency swap line made between the National Bank of Ukraine and the National Bank of Poland and the right granted to Ukrainian banks to purchase cash hryvni from foreign financial institutions for non-cash currency amounting to the equivalent of one million euros per day made it possible to launch such an exchange in Poland, and another five countries without major losses, the National Bank of Ukraine said.

"The agreement enabling Ukrainian citizens currently in Poland to exchange Ukrainian hryvni for Polish zlotys, which we have concluded with the National Bank of Poland, began working on March 25," the National Bank of Ukraine said on social media on Saturday.

In Poland, which has taken more than two thirds of all Ukrainian refugees, Ukrainians may exchange hryvni in certain offices of PKO Bank Polski, it said. The exchange limit is up to 10,000 hryvni in cash per person in 100- to 1,000-hryvnia banknotes. In order to exchange hryvni, people will be required to documents, either an ID card or a valid international passport.

In Hungary, it is possible to exchange cash hryvni at OTP Bank offices, where Ukrainian citizens may exchange cash hryvni for Hungarian forints in the amount of up to 15,000 hryvni per transaction.

Furthermore, the bank offers Ukrainian citizens 18 years old and over (Ukrainians 14 to 18 years of age in the presence of parents or legal guardians) to open a forint-denominated account at specialized offices of OTP Bank in Hungary that offer such services. They will have to produce a valid passport or a travel document.

In an effort to support Ukrainian citizens, in Moldova OTP Bank will conduct currency operations with the Ukrainian hryvni at its offices located in Moldova's regions near the border with Ukraine and at several offices in Chisinau. Ukrainians will be required to produce a domestic or international passport. The exchange limit is up to 3,000 hryvni per person per day.

In Romania, Ukrainian hryvni may be exchanged for Romanian lei at Banca Comerciala Romana: 11 offices of this bank located near the border with Ukraine have been provided with additional amounts of cash to help Ukrainians crossing into Moldova. Ukrainian citizens may exchange hryvni in the equivalent of up to 1,000 Romanian lei per person. It is nearly 6,500 hryvni according to the official exchange rate. A valid international passport will be needed for such transactions.

In Slovakia, hryvni may be exchanged for euros at Tatra Banka, which is a subsidiary bank of Raiffeisen Group. The exchange limit per day is 250 euros per person. Ukrainian citizens wishing to avail themselves of these services will have to produce a valid international passport.

At the moment, they can do so at the bank's head office located at the Tatracentrum shopping mall in Bratislava, and additional exchange points will be opened in Humenne and Michalovce in the near future. Apart from that, Ukrainians may open accounts at Tatra Banka offices, where cash hryvni will be transferred to bankcards based on the current exchange rate for euro.

In Austria, Ukrainians may exchange cash hryvni for euros at offices of Raiffeisen Bank and Erste Bank Oesterreich by producing an international passport. At Raiffeisen Bank, one person can exchange up to 500 euros per day, while the daily exchange limit at Erste Bank Oesterreich is 300 euros per person.
