Mishustin backs need for regulation of cryptocurrency turnover in Russia with participation of CBR

MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax) - Issues related to operations with cryptocurrency should be addressed jointly with the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) in order to assess risks for circulation of money in Russia, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.

At a meeting with representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party on Friday, Mishustin spoke about creating a special regime for operations with cryptocurrency.

"We looked at the concept in great detail last month, everyone participated in the review, it was looked at by the government after the Finance Ministry introduced it. And, of course, it will be necessary to integrate the turnover of digital currencies into the country's financial system," the prime minister said.

"But there is no doubt that such issues can only be addressed in conjunction with the Central Bank to assess the risks that cryptocurrencies create for circulation of money in Russia. As for the possibility of mining, as for the possibility of further regulation of circulation, of course, this must be dealt with, and this was detailed in the concept. It was endorsed by us, in fact," Mishustin said.

He promised to consider the LDPR's proposals, saying: "We believe that everything is possible here, but, of course, with the participation of the Central Bank."
