Accident takes place at Sumykhimprom chemical plant, no threat to people - company statement
KYIV. March 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The Sumykhimprom chemical plant, where an ammonium pipeline in the compound mineral fertilizer section was damaged and a minor ammonium leak took place on Monday morning, has eliminated the effects of the accident on its own with assistance from the State Emergency Situations Service, and the pipeline has been sealed with a special bandage, it said.
"State Emergency Situations Service units have completed the precipitation of the ammonium cloud. There is no threat to the population or the environment," it said.
"Sumykhimprom workers have started routine operations to resume the process," the company said, adding that the plant was shut down in emergency mode on February 24.
Sumykhimprom specializes in producing titanium dioxide, sulfuric acid, yellow and red iron oxide pigments, compound mineral fertilizers, and water purification coagulants. The state holds a 99.995% stake in it.
