Number of Ukrainians crossing Ukraine border into EU countries continues to decrease - Ukrainian border service

KYIV. March 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Almost 47,000 people crossed the Ukraine border to enter EU member countries and Moldova on March 20, an approximately 6% decline from the previous day, the State Border Guard Service of Ukrainian said in a statement on Monday.

The outflow of people has been steadily waning since March 15, although at a slower pace in the past few days, the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service said, adding that the daily rate has declined by 37.3% over the period.

About 64% of people leaving Ukraine crossed the border into Poland on March 20, which is generally in keeping with average figures, it said.

"We advise those wishing to cross into the EU to choose border crossings at the borders with Hungary, Slovakia and Romania," the agency said.

Over 600 transport vehicles with humanitarian cargoes have been cleared at Ukraine's western borders in the past 24 hours, it said. Whereas, their daily numbers exceeded 900 the previous two days, the Ukrainian border service said.

According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, 3.49 million people have left Ukraine since February 24, 2022, as of 1:00 p.m. local time (2:00 p.m. Moscow time) on March 20. In particularly, Poland has received 2.08 million, Romania and Moldova about 608,100, and Hungary about 312,100.
