ICJ calls on Russia to halt special operation in Ukraine

BRUSSELS. March 16 (Interfax) - - The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial institution of the United Nations, on Wednesday called on Russia to stop its special military operation in Ukraine.

"The Russian Federation shall immediately suspend the military operations that it commenced on 24 February 2022 in the territory of Ukraine," ICJ said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Both Parties shall refrain from any action which might aggravate or extend the dispute before the Court or make it more difficult to resolve," it said.

These are the provisional measures, which, according to the court, need to be taken in this case.

Ukraine earlier turned to ICJ in a bid to stop the Russian special operation.

As was reported, the Russian delegation decided against participating in the hearing that took place earlier in March.
