ECHR halts examination of all applications submitted against Russia due to Moscow's withdrawal from CoE

MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has moved to suspend the consideration of all applications submitted against the Russian Federation, the court's press service said in a release on Wednesday.

"Following the Resolution of the Committee of Ministers that the Russian Federation ceases to be a member of the Council of Europe as from 16 March 2022 (Resolution (CM/Res(2022)2), the Court has decided to suspend the examination of all applications against the Russian Federation," the ECHR statement said.

The consideration of all such cases has been suspended "pending its consideration of the legal consequences of this Resolution for the work of the Court," it said.
