United Russia votes for dismissal of Dvorkovich as chairman of Skolkovo Foundation - Turchak
MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - Russia's former Deputy Prime Minister, head of the chess world governing body FIDE, Arkady Dvorkovich must be removed from the office of Skolkovo Foundation chairman for his statements about the Ukraine crisis, which were earlier published in Western media, United Russia General Council Secretary Andrei Turchak said.
United Russia is for an immediate dismissal of Dvorkovich, the party's press service quoted Turchak as saying on Wednesday.
FIDE's decision to temporarily ban Russia's chess national team from competitions under the organization's auspices may be regarded as a demarche that is inconsistent with the principle of sport being outside of politics, Turchak said, criticizing Dvorkovich's statements about Russian policies in relation to Ukraine published by Western media and promises that grandmasters from Russia and Belarus will compete under the flag of FIDE in international events.
