WHO postpones inspection of Sputnik V production, pledges to set new dates

BRUSSELS. March 16 (Interfax) - The World Health Organization (WHO) has postponed indefinitely the inspection of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine's production facilities and will set a new date as soon as possible, WHO Assistant Director General for Access to Medicines, Vaccines and Pharmaceuticals Mariangela Simao said.

The WHO was expected to launch an inspection in Russia on March 7 but delayed it, Simao said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Factors influencing the vaccine's assessment and inspections included the current financial situation in the world and restrictions concerning air services. She emphasized that WHO is in contact with Russia as regards setting new dates for the inspection.

New dates of the inspections will be set as soon as possible, Simao said.
