Peskov declines to say whether Nabiullina will remain head of CBR

MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - The Kremlin will make no announcement on whose candidacy for the post of Central Bank of Russia (CBR) Governor Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to nominate next week, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked by Interfax whether Elvira Nabiullina would continue heading up the regulator.

"We never announce such [proposals]. When the president puts one forward, then he will," Peskov said.

Nabiullina's term of office as CBR Governor expires on June 24, 2022. The head of the regulator is appointed by the State Duma by a majority vote of the total number of deputies. By law, the President must submit a candidate for the position of the Central Bank chairman to the State Duma no later than 3 months before the expiration of his term, that is, in the case of Nabiullina - before March 24.

Nabiullina has led the Central Bank since June 2013. In 2017, her powers were extended for another 5 years.
