Kyiv reports successful evacuation of about 20,000 people from Mariupol

KYIV. March 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) - About 20,000 people left Mariupol by personal vehicles through a humanitarian passage over the past day, deputy head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko said on Tuesday.

In his words, 570 out of 4,000 vehicles have arrived in Zaporizhzhya, while the rest have decided to spend the night in populated localities in the Zaporizhzhya and Donetsk regions. Assistance is given to everyone who needs it, he said.

About 29,000 people were evacuated from blocked cities through humanitarian passages over the day, Tymoshenko said.
