Russia opening new markets for importing foodstuffs, world not limited to U.S., EU - Abramchenko

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - Russia is opening up new markets for food imports and increasing cooperation with new suppliers, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko said in a statement distributed by her press service.

"The Western countries' sanctions will not lead to isolating the agro-industrial market in Russia. The world is not limited to the U.S. and the EU. Russia is opening up new markets and concluding agreements with new suppliers," Abramchenko said.

Specifically, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) in the past month has granted permits for importing foodstuffs to Russia to more than 140 foreign enterprises, including to those from Turkey, India, China, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. The foodstuffs include supplies of dairy and meat products, feed and feed additives, fish products, and breeding material.

Deliveries of hatching eggs are also open. Additionally, based on the results of negotiations and taking into account the favorable epizootic situation for bird diseases, imports of hatching eggs and day-old chicks from Brazil and Chile are permitted.

"Russia provides itself with basic foodstuffs, and continues to expand imports in order to saturate the market with various products as well as to increase the selection for Russian consumers. However, it is not worth fueling artificial demand with purchases for the future. There are no prerequisites for the risks of a shortage or a decrease in the assortment amid external economic pressure. We will refocus the market and establish profitable mutual trade, and expand the partner network with friendly countries," Abramchenko emphasized.
