Kazakh court remands Nazarbayev's nephew in custody for 2 months

NUR-SULTAN. March 15 (Interfax) - The Specialized Inter-District Investigative Court of Nur-Sultan ordered on Tuesday that businessman Kairat Satybaldy be remanded in custody for two months, a court spokesperson told Interfax.

"The Specialized Inter-District Investigative Court of the capital ruled today to remand suspect Kairat Satybaldy in custody for two months as a restraining measure," the spokesperson said.

Satybaldy is the nephew of first Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and is on the Forbes Kazakhstan list of the country's most influential businesspeople.

Kazakhstan's anti-corruption service said on Sunday that Satybaldy had been detained on suspicion of abuse of office and large-scale misappropriation of JSC Kazakhtelecom's funds.

Chief of the Kazakh anti-corruption service Olzhas Bektenov said later that Satybaldy was detained at the Almaty airport as he prepared to leave for Dubai.
