Russia to adequately respond to London's personal sanctions, including against Russian leadership - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Moscow will give an adequate response to personal sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom, including the ones targeting the Russian leadership, Foreign Ministry Second European Department Director General Sergei Belyayev said.
"As for personal sanctions, it needs to be taken into consideration that London has repeatedly used this deadly practice and it is well aware that such unfriendly actions are constantly met with an appropriate response of the Russian side. I would like to emphasize that the choice of a confrontation with Russia is a conscious decision of the British political elite which also bears full responsibility for its consequences," the high-ranking Russian diplomat said.
London's reaction to Russia's decision about the special military operation in Ukraine is "extremely hostile," Belyayev said.
"We are forced to state that London's imposing of indiscriminate anti-Russian sanctions is accompanied by frantic statements of British officials containing insults against Russia interspersed with blatant threats," he said.
"Despite the British government's attempts to present the sanctions as some response to Moscow's actions in Ukraine, it is important to understand that in reality London has been pursuing the deliberate policy of external isolation and discrediting of Russia on the international arena for many years now," Belyayev said.
"In addition, information attesting to attempts of the UK's direct interference in Russian internal political process has been published on the Internet in the past few months," he said.
