MIFF rescheduled for 2nd half of 2022

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - The Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) has been postponed until later this year after foreign filmmakers said they will be unable to travel and take part in the event, its organizers said.

"The dates of the 44th MIFF are being moved to the second half of 2022, we will announce the exact dates additionally," a statement said.

The organizers said they had been contacted by foreign cinematographers, longtime friends and MIFF partners, who asked to "move its dates, which this year are planned for April. Many of them, given the situation, see no possibility of traveling to Moscow or sending in their films (where such films only exist on tape or on a hard drive) or, in some cases, even obtaining consent from producers to have their films participate in the festival.

"We are grateful to all cinematographers who earlier confirmed their participation and we hope to see you later this year in Moscow with your new works," the statement said.

The MIFF was initially due to be held in Moscow on April 21-28.

The MIFF is the world's second oldest film festival after Venice Film Festival.
