Federation Council Speaker Matviyenko says closing her Instagram account

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko has said that she is removing her Instagram account and has suggested reading her [posts] on the VKontakte social network. At the same time, she did not rule out that she would appear on Telegram.

"Against the backdrop of information about Meta's activities, in my opinion, absolutely unacceptable in the 21st century - purely extremist and anti-Russian - which has now become public, I decided to close my account on Instagram," Matviyenko said in a statement, which was released by the press service for the upper house of parliament on Friday.

"I will communicate with you and report important information on other platforms. First of all, on VKontakte. Let's go there! Perhaps, I will open [an account] on Telegram," she said.

On Friday, the Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit with the court to recognize Meta as an extremist organization and ban its activities in Russia.

On Friday night, Western media reported that Facebook and Instagram would temporarily allow users in some countries to call for violence against Russian soldiers.
