Belarusian Information Ministry warns Facebook, Instagram users of responsibility for extremist posts

MINSK. March 11 (Interfax) - The Belarusian Information Ministry has warned users of the Facebook and Instagram social networks of responsibility for extremist posts and calls for violence.

"Considering the changed policy of the Meta Platforms company, the Belarusian Information Ministry deems it necessary to warn Facebook and Instagram users of the inadmissibility of publishing extremist materials and calls for terrorism and violence," the ministry said on Friday.

Belarusian laws "envisage administrative and criminal liability for such publications, while access may be restricted to Internet resources disseminating such materials," it said.

As reported earlier, Facebook and Instagram will stop blocking user calls for violence against the Russian military in a number of countries if such calls are related to the conflict in Ukraine. The Meta policy applies to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and Estonia.
