LPR head signs decree on recognition of Abkhazia

LUHANSK. March 10 (Interfax) - Head of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) Leonid Pasechnik has signed a decree recognizing Abkhazia as an independent and sovereign state.

"I hereby order that the Republic of Abkhazia be recognized as a sovereign and independent state," according to the text of Pasechnik's decree, which has been published on his website.

The LPR Foreign Ministry has been instructed to hold negotiations with Abkhazia on establishing diplomatic relations and to draw up a draft treaty on friendship and cooperation between the LPR and Abkhazia, it said.

Abkhaz President Aslan Bzhania signed decrees on February 25 of this year to recognize the LPR and the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).

Abkhazia established diplomatic relations with the DPR on March 9.
