Russia fully stocked with basic foods - Duma member

MOSCOW. March 10 (Interfax) - Russia is fully stocked with basic foods, such as grain, meat, eggs, sugar, fruit and vegetables, Deputy Chairperson of the State Duma Agrarian Committee, United Russia faction member Nadezhda Shkolkina said.

"The food supply is quite stable in the country. Please note that we are fully stocked with basic foods, starting with grain, which means we have flour, bread and pasta, all major cereal grains such as rice and millet, and peas," Shkolkina told reporters on Wednesday.

"There is a minor deficit of rye and food oats, but this is easily replaced with other cereal crops, and the new harvest will change the situation entirely," she said.

"We fully provide ourselves with poultry, pork, eggs, vegetable oil, sugar, and main types of fruit and vegetables. We import only those products that do not grow here due to climate conditions," Shkolkina said.

"There are no reasons for speculative demand for food and a spike in food prices," she said.
