Armenian troops say Azerbaijani troops attacked their positions on Nakhichevan border

YEREVAN. March 9 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani troops have opened fire on the positions of the Armenian troops on the Western part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, on the border with the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.

"Units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire using weapons of various caliber in the direction of Armenian combat positions on the Western part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border at 1:10 p.m. on March 9. The enemy's fire was suppressed after the Armenian side returned fire," the Armenian Defense Ministry press service said.

The situation on this border section is now relatively stable, the agency said.

In the meantime, the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has also reported an attack by the Azerbaijani side.

The agency said the shots were fired using 60 caliber mortars in the direction of the village of Khnushinak, Martuni district. No one was hurt on the Armenian side.

The Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic earlier reported an attack on the positions of Armenian troops from the Azerbaijani side. In particular, it said Azerbaijani troops had attacked the village of Khramort on March 7-8. The Armenian Defense Ministry also said one Armenian serviceman was killed and one was wounded in an attack in the direction of Yeraskh.
