Kremlin hopes functioning of U.S. bio labs in Ukraine to be clarified

MOSCOW. March 9 (Interfax) - The Kremlin expects that there will be more clarity about the functioning of biological laboratories in Ukraine, which it believes have been actually operated by specialists from the United States, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Wednesday.

Recalling that Gennady Onishchenko, former chief of Russia's consumer protection and public health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, had spoken about these Ukrainian laboratories several years ago, journalists asked Peskov whether the Kremlin was aware of the scope of those facilities.

"Doctor Onishchenko doesn't waste words. This subject is very important, and perhaps it's important for the entire world. Let's hope we'll be able to scrutinize those facilities that were functioning in Ukrainian territory and which were in fact operated by American specialists," Peskov said.

The whole world is likely to be interested in learning and understanding what those facilities specialized in, he said.

Asked when this could become known, Peskov replied, "In due time."
