Chernobyl NPP controlled jointly by Russian troops, Ukrainian specialists - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. March 9 (Interfax) - The situation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) is being controlled by Russian troops and Ukrainian officials, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

"The situation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is now being controlled jointly by Russian troops, Ukrainian specialists, the civilian personnel of the plant, the national guard of this country," Zakharova said during a briefing.

"The reports alleging that the radiation level at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has increased 20 times are untrue," she said.

"Such unfounded rumors were denied by the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] director general back on March 2," Zakharova said.

Speaking about the situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, she said that "as representatives of the nuclear power plant, the mayor of Enerhodar repeatedly said that the plant is working normally."
