UK bans exports of aviation, space industry products to Russia

LONDON. March 9 (Interfax) - The British authorities are banning the exports of aviation and space industry products to Russia, Downing Street said on Wednesday.

"Additional trade measures, also introduced today, will prevent UK exports of aviation or space-related items and technology to Russia, including related services such as insurance and reinsurance services," a statement published on the British government website said.

"We have also strengthened the current overflight and landing ban on Russian aircraft, laying new legislation today to make it a criminal offence for any Russian aircraft to fly or land in the UK," it said.

"The ban includes any aircraft owned, operated or chartered by anyone connected with Russia or designated individuals or entities, and will include the power to detain any aircraft owned by persons connected with Russia," the statement said.

British Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps said earlier on Wednesday that the British authorities were set to detain any Russian plane found in the British airspace.
