CERN suspends cooperation with Russia

PARIS. March 9 (Interfax) - The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) decided at a special meeting on Tuesday to suspend cooperation with Russia due to the Ukraine situation.

"The Observer status of the Russian Federation is suspended until further notice. CERN will not engage in new collaborations with the Russian Federation and its institutions until further notice," CERN said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The situation will continue to be monitored carefully and the Council is ready to take any further measures, as appropriate, at its future meetings," it said.

CERN is the world's largest high-energy physics laboratory situated in Switzerland, near the French border. It operates the Large Hadron Collider, the world's largest and highest-energy particle collider.
